5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and tragic   May 19, 2010

This story is tragic, beautiful, shocking, and at the end, so, so sad. I did not expect the intensity of this story from the title and description alone; this is a true case of 'don't judge a book by its cover'. To anyone doubtful about buying this title, I say: do yourself a favor and buy it. If you like a beautiful, tragic love story, Boys Love will not disappoint (but you may be left with a tear in your eye).

Story aside, the art on this one is almost as beautiful as the story content. The cover art is gorgeous, however this one is presented without a slipcover, color inserts, or anything special of that variety. The paper seems to be of good quality and the translation smooth and well done. Over all, I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars one of the most beautiful I have ever read...EVER   January 17, 2010

I picked this one up on a whim and I am so glad I did. I think I sat back at the end of this book and said..."Wow. Just, wow." I don't think I *could* think after reading it. Each time I reread it it still makes me emotional.

This has to be one of the most beautifully sad and romantic stories I have ever read, and even leaving out the fact that it is all guys this is STILL one of the best. I won't give away any of the actual plot, but it wasn't what I expected at all and despite the ending I felt good. Perhaps, this is just how some love is meant to be.

The art is beautiful, different. There is one picture towards the end where our characters are facing each other and the only thing super-defined are their eyes, and it is so expressive and beautiful. You can actually feel the emotion in the story. It has to be one of my faorites, right up there with the classic "Ai no Kusabi", also one without a happy ending.

This author hit a home run with this one. It's amazing, believeable and best of all, not one of those typical 'all ends well and happy' cute yaoi fluffy stories. I highly reccomend to any Yaoi fan. If you see it, grab it.

5 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly sad love story   November 4, 2009

Although Amazon's "Editorial Description" gives absolutely no clue, this is the saddest, most tragic yaoi love story I've ever encountered. That fact alone makes BOYS LOVE very different (and therefore very memorable) from what one usually encounters as Yaoi Manga. The well done, highly evocative artwork is dramatic when it needs to be and a sad, lonely "drawing within a drawing" - encountered early on in the story - sets the somber but still somehow uplifting mood for what is to come.

Think - impressionistically - of Jim Grimsley's DREAM BOY done as Yaoi. That will give you an idea of what this is about. Expect to shed a few tears at the end of the book even as you faintly shiver in bittersweet awe at the sad romanticism of the tragic final scenes.
