I think a few previous negative reviews on this book (and on similar "global yaoi" anthologies published by Yaoi Press) have to do with the fact that Western readers (especially, a few years ago) were very much used to the art of a very few Japanese manga-kas who were licensed and published in English back in the thin yaoi market of 2004-2007 (Ayano Yamane, Kazuma Kodaka, Nase Yamato, etc). So, if something looked and "felt" different, such readers complained. Actual Japanese yaoi is actually VERY diverse, and the stories in this collection are true yaoi, even if they are not as memorable (to most) as Finder series or Kizuna are.
I found the first and third stories interesting and with enough "yaoi"-ness to satisfy my taste. The first story - on the half-incubus and his demon lover - is actually relatively explicit, and it has enough angst to hold your attention. I really liked the third story: there's some character development, drama, and rescuer (ex-cop)/victim pairing.
The second story was so-so to me, but the first and the third ones made the purchase of this book quite worthwhile to me.
I recommend it to all open-minded yaoi fans, who like different / diverse art and plots.

In defence of the second story - its one where things are deliberately not made clear from the start. You need to work it out as you read through, and its revealled subtly. I think those other reviewers may be people used to having plots spoon fed to them very clearly from the start. But that is only one way of telling a story in manga/comics. The more subtle and obscure approach is just as valid. Anyway this story is actually pretty simple - the two guys were lovers a few years before, they meet again accidentally, but are now in different gangs... their sexual connection starts again, the gangs find out, there's trouble. Thats it, and its all there in the story - its just not SHOVED in your face!

The storylines of the first and the last story are ok, the third story is the best about a young men who is kept as a slave by abusive men, but is able to flee. He takes refuge with an ex-cop who tries to help him, but who has problems of his own. From the second story I'm still only confused...
The drawing style of the first and the third story is a classical comic/cartoon style, the style of the second story reminds the most of classical manga style. The drawings of all the stories are ok. It took me some time to like the style of the third story, but altoghether I like it best. But at first I couldn't help but think, that one character constantly reminded me of Michael Myers from the movie Halloween...

I picked this up mostly because of the cover art. I liked the colors and I thought it had a lot of promise, but the interior art leaves a lot to be desired.
IMO, the first story of the incubus had the best story line (I thought it was really sweet) and the best art and that's sort of sad since the art still left much to be desired.
The second story was disjointed. The relationship between the two characters seemed weird and unreal. It didn't feel like it was based on anything, not even a "love at first sight" cop-out. Until they end up in front of the TV doing a little video watching, you're wondering how in the world they even know each other at all. The art didn't help either.
The third story was better developed and the characters were more fleshed out like the first. You could see the progression of a relationship building between the two characters. But once again, the art.....I don't even know what to say about it without being harsh.
In every story the art work looks really flat and empty. Everything looked two dimensional with nothing to bring depth, texture, or richness to the pages. All of it looks like a partially finished story board, lots of empty space. There are good manga out there that don't have a lot of background and filler, but the shading/texture of the characters is rich enough to make up for it. But, I also think the precisely outlined rectangle at every panel of this book made me more aware of the open and empty space, the lack of details in the back ground. Or, if the back ground was filled in, it felt very cookie cutter. Like the artist knew the panel was going to be exactly this dimension and they better put in a table/bookshelf/door/convenient plant to fill in exactly the space that's left open around their characters. The panels don't flow and naturally progress into each other. The story board type of panels I expect to see in an american style comic ,it works, that's the style. But this is being promoted as a yaoi manga, and I wouldn't say that it follows the manga style.
If you're looking for a manga, pick something else. If you're looking for a gay american cartoon, then this is for you.

I was very excited to get this anthology! The cover was perfect and the synopsis sounded so very interesting. But boy am I ever disappointed.
The cover story looks as if it would be worth its weight alone, but that does not seem to be the case. Aren, the incubus demon, is not so much tragic as he is annoying. There is nothing sexy about him and really, I would think an incubus demon would EXUDE sexiness. At least he's pretty enough when he blushes.
The second story confuses me (am I missing a page?). You have two delinquents in love. I am not sure if the problem is that they're from rival gangs or that they are homosexual, either way this story, with its horribly drawn lovers, is garbage.
The last story is the tale of a slave who flees the clutches of drunken hillbillies, only to leave his friend behind! (There were two shot guns by the door idiot!) He is rescued by a retired cop with a shattered past. I found myself rolling my eyes over and over again at this story.
The entire thing was a disappointment and when I looked at the cover in reality, even that doesn't look so good.
