| Customer Reviews: Living for Tomorrow adds just a touch of magic that makes it one yaoi that makes it worth following November 17, 2009 GraphicNovelReporter.com (New York, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Tasuku Mizuochi is at the top of his martial arts class and arrogant about it to boot. His best friend, Ryouta Oono, just can't seem to beat him. Tasuku has been hard on Ryouta ever since they were small children. Tasuku's mother died when he was young, and Ryouta was there for him. Because of this incident, Tasuku found that his feelings for Ryouta grew over time. He comes down hard on Ryouta as a way to hide his emotions and keep himself from losing control.
One night, while watching television, Tasuku hears about a group of people who all seem to have had their lives improved by an "ageman" named Yuuko, a woman with the power to bring men luck. When Tasuku realizes that all of these people were talking about his deceased mother Yuuko, he starts to wonder if he has inherited any of her skills.
The only problem is that the rest of the town seems to have had the same idea! Now everyone is out to date or sleep with Tasuku in hopes that doing so will bring them good luck. Unsure if he even has any powers, Tasuku decides to take a risk and confess his feelings to Ryouta; his logic being that if he dates Ryouta that he will be able to bring him good fortune to make him happy.
Ryouta is unsure about how to handle his friend's advances. Should he say no? Would it be taking advantage of him? And why does he feel oddly compelled to enjoy them?
Living for Tomorrow does have some graphic sexual situations, but it easily refrains from becoming anything gratuitous and trashy. In the end, the themes are about friendship, trust, and the female fantasy of young men opening up to each other. Because the main characters are still in their early high-school years, the ideal readers for this series would be females in their late teens and early 20s.
The book lacks a bit of realism when it comes to the portrayal of young teen boys. The dialogue feels a bit too clean, and the boys far too understanding and mature. On the other hand, this is a yaoi manga. It's meant to play toward women's fantasies, where men are more understanding and emotional. Better yet, neither of the main characters are particular stereotypes or extremes. Living for Tomorrow adds just a touch of magic that makes it one yaoi that makes it worth following.

Great Light Hearted Romantic Comedy August 18, 2009 Fathom 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I fell in love w/ the scanalation of this story, so when this story was released in English I wanted to own this book.
One of the highlights of the book is the incredible artwork by Taishi Zaou, I've always liked her artwork. In this book, she really outdid herself on the drawing the emotion of each of the characters. Even the small little facial expressions in the dialogue blurbs were vastly amusing.
I also really enjoyed the plot. The role reversal of the uke of not only being the aggressor, but being able to beat the seme in all their karate matches.
It's amusing that Tasuku had been beating up on Ryouta for so long to hide how he really felt, and how Ryouta is really dense about he felt for Tasuku. It's too bad there is not a second volume. I would have liked to see this couple confront more problems.
Smutwise, it's pretty light. Only one real sexual encounter and some implied ones. Nevertheless, those scenes looked really sexy and sensual w/ the facial expressions even though it wasn't as explicit.
I would greatly reccommend this manga, I can't imagine anyone not liking this light hearted romantic comedy.
Facial Expressions Worth It August 9, 2009 RB in DB 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The plot is above average fare even if the general setting is pretty standard... three high-school friends all of whom belong to the same Karate Dojo. One, Tasuku, has a secret childhood crush, but can't stand his feelings, which he thinks can go nowhere - so he beats up on the object of his affection in frustration. His childhood friend and secret love, Ryouta, keeps getting beaten up but keeps on hanging on anyway - and Ryouta has a gambling monkey on his back, too. Then there's the wise friend, Katsuyama, who sees that these two actually like each other and urges Tasusku to just admit his feelings... of course to no avail. As Tasuku puts it... "its hard enough for a man and woman to fall in love... it must be almost impossible for two guys!"
But Tasuku may have found a loophole in his own rationalizations in keeping his distance from Ryouta... Tasuku may be an Ageman... a person that can bring good luck to the person he dates. If he were to ask Ryouta to date him, maybe it could bring Ryouta good luck - and a reason to be going out with Tasuku. Fair trade huh? Plot is interesting, engaging, sweet and sexy. I also like the diversions from the usual formula, the tougher Tasuku, who is constantly defeating his secret crush, is actually the uke. The portrayal of Tasuku's love for his friend and his belief that such a relationship under normal circumstances could go nowhere makes the Ageman plot twist a little more plausible as he grasps at this one straw to bring him to his object of affection - whether the Ageman thing is true or not. The two clueless main characters that can't seem to see the evidence of their affection for one another is also well portrayed.
But what I give high marks for are the facial expressions: confusion, tenderness... and most of all of desire and longing... pretty difficult to do in black and white line drawings. I especially like the fact that the main character actually looks Japanese. Tasuku has great breadth of expressions and the scenes devoted to him expressing his frustrating love for Ryouta are well worth the price.
Cute & Fun July 13, 2009 J. Garson (Chicago, IL United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a cute and fun stand-alone story. The guys are hot and the art is good.
One big thing I like about this manga is that the lead characters both look like they are the age they're supposed to be and are about the same size/build. I get totally turned off by those all-too-prevelant yaoi manga where the seme looks 25 and the uke looks 12.
They also both act like guys. The uke is actually the agressive one, and the seme is adorable in his uncertainty and surprise when he learns of his friend's feelings.
There's nothing terribly earth-shattering about the plot, but it has a unique enough premise to keep things interesting.
There's not a lot of sex, what there is is pretty hot, but if you're more interested in the sex than the development of the leads' relationship, it probably won't be enough.
I also liked the mutual friend character who is the voice of reason throughout the story. Although it's probably not very realistic that a teenage boy would be so wise and understanding about a burgeoning gay relationship between his friends! Still, he's a good character and it's refreshing to have a male be the one who encourages the leads to tell each other their feelings.
I gambled on this one since it had no reviews when I bought it. I'm glad I did. It's worth a read when you're in the mood for a fun, light story.
A very cute pair! 4.5 stars June 14, 2009 R.Parklane (Tokyo, Japan) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am pleasantly surprised by this one. School boys love could get pretty typical sometimes but this one has a nice touch to it and the artwork is just lovely. Our boys are refreshing characters as we have an aggressive yet moody and worry wart uke here. Great to have an aggressive uke in sex once in a while. LOL! As for his seme, he is the adorable one as he is just clueless about his feelings yet so protective over his uke. The plot is light hearted and enjoyable as our uke is the son of an "ageman". So does that make him one too? And I like their friend who is the word of reasons in their relationship. And the last chapter is just so funny.
