Product Description Kanan has a boyish face and gets picked on often because of his tiny figure. But, things change when his neighbor turns out to be a merman - and the King of the Seas, at that! Despite the king's selfish and rude pretense, he tries to booster Kanan's self esteem, and Kanan wants to thank the merman for his support - but in what way...?!

Under the Sea, Under the Sea August 31, 2010 The Kimi-Chan Experience Kanan is an overly timid man. He's used to this making him miserable, as co-workers at the office bully him and take advantage of his passive nature. Coming home always has brought respite, but things change one evening when he arrives back at his flat only to discover water pouring through his ceiling. What's this? Going upstairs, he finds the neighbour above him has left the water running in his bath for quite sometime and EEP! Is he dead n the bath? No... the "man" is a mermaid and now that the landlord has also discovered the water damage, one who has decided to take advantage of Kanan's personality and move on in with him. And what a selfish guy he is too, making Kanan cook, clean, and ...wait...what is that you're doing? Ahh?!
June Manga and Kamo-sensei bring us an aquatic fantasy filled with quirky characters and outrageous plot details that nonetheless hits all the right buttons. While Kanan is being encouraged to develop a spine, we get a romantic comedy drama of a romp, the likes of which I haven't had since Splash. But if you're expecting Splash, forget it. This is BL, and while the mermaid schtick is somewhat the same in terms of certain conventions, the plot gets turned on its head and swiveled 180 degrees by adhering to selfish and egotistical seme pushes his uke about but with good intentions routine familiar to many fans of the genre. So nothing new element wise, but refreshingly done in how it is all packaged together.
Art wise, we get a visual feast, with pointy chinned and occasionally large eyed, pretty faced men to gaze at. The panels are uncomplicated and uncluttered, with simple layouts. Looking at it artistically and knowing the plot, one can see it is intended to be an uncomplicated fun read an in this, it doesn't disappoint. It is high quality lightweight entertainment with enough B x B action to garner this an 18+ rating and just enough plot to keep it off the pure smut-ometer. The fun continues over to volume 2, which concludes the series. I'd like to thank Digital Manga for providing the review copy.
Borrow. Don't buy. April 22, 2010 A. Flores (USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This story was as stupid as they come. Thank god I bought it on sale, but seriously even THAT wasn't worth it. I gave it away to a friend the moment I finished it.
The uke is ALWAYS crying which is pathetic and the story is super weak. No development of the characters at all and hardly any of it even makes any logical sense even for a yaoi.
My advice is, if you really want to read it find someone who owns it and borrow it. Hell, even look for a scanlation or something for free online. Buying it is a huge mistake.
Just ok... January 8, 2009 Teru Chiaki (Washington DC) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This yaoi was okay. Not a lot of character development. The uke is of the super wimpy/slave variety, which isn't really my thing. He also looks like an eight year old. The seme was pretty hot and kind of tortured but it was hard to understand why he was so into the uke. Also, there are no actual mermaids in this story. I guess that would make it pretty hard for them to have sex and, after all, isn't that the whole point?
Fun and sexy July 26, 2008 R. Jeffery (MA, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was in the mood for something light and fun, and this certainly fit the bill. Even though this is light in tone, it doesn't disappoint as far as the sex scenes. I'd really like to see another volume of this.
Delightfully cute! May 16, 2008 R.Parklane (Tokyo, Japan) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This fantasy Yaoi is so cute and just pure fun. This is Vol 1 and I definitely look forward to more. Kanan is such an adorable uke, totally endearing in his innocence and timidity. As for his Mr Mermaid, Kaioh, he may be aloof and seems cold at the beginning, but once he starts caring for Kanan, Kaioh is equally lovable. Their interaction is lively, amusing, sweet and sexy. A lot of sex though the "lower parts" are hidden. Not a problem at all as the characters and fast paced and lively plot more than make up for this. There is a little spin-off on Kaioh's rival and a lonely clam (yes a clam!) which is enjoyable and sweet too.
Love the expressive artwork. Read this a straight 2 times. Yes that enjoyable!
