3 out of 5 stars First half great, second half, not so much   January 20, 2008
lore (Neverwhere)
The first half of this book is a fun, interesting read. But the second half descends into almost uninterpretable joke and cat-boy stories. In fact, the very first story is so hot and charming that it sets the bar too high for the rest of the volume to reach.

But I do agree that for the price, you won't be able to sample a wider range of yaoi stories. I don't regret the purchase.

4 out of 5 stars A great bargain!   March 22, 2007

At $11.50 and over 300 pages, this collection is certainly a great bargain. Ranging from light BL to some kinky sex and soft Yaois, I find most of the stories pretty enjoyable. And such a wide variety too - nipples fetish, love through a portrait, childhood friends finding love in a small town amidst sadness, a wimpy president and his ghostbuster knight, lonely men with their cats pets, 2 butler brothers finding love, rabbits, a sexy one on 2 "dojos" struggling for dominance, tension release in an all boys boarding school, a training diary on the wizard and his apprentice from a cat clan. There are also some short stories from the better known DMP releases like "Our Kingdom", "Clan of Nakagamike" and "Kurashina Sensei's Passion", which gives one the chance to sample these mangakas' works.
There are a few which I wish for more like the touchingly sweet one on a lonely man with his cat pet in a house by a small lake surrounded by a forest.., the butler brothers' romance, the 2 childhood friends turn lovers and the bizzare diary of the wizard and his cat-boy apprentice.
As I am quite a "sap", I find this overall a good read.

5 out of 5 stars You Get What You Buy   February 20, 2007

It's a book containing a lot of manga shorts. I'll admit that some of the stories are a lot better than others, at least in my opinion, but this book gave me a lot of ideas too.

Because I got this book I now have a whole new list of artists and stories that I'm interested. It's a really nice way to sample the artists without going all out and buying their books. So, overall, I would say that it was well worth my time and money.

3 out of 5 stars Yaoi Manga Review: J-Boys   January 13, 2007

Though it's not as sappy as "Little Butterfly", the short stories from the "J-Boys" manga have a very sweet & silly mood to them. Innocent romance and/or cuddly friendship will often overpower the more intriguing development of sexual tension. Unfortunately, some of the stories have a rather abrupt ending, leaving off at the most compelling moment of sensual/romantic progress.
Also, it doesn't have many adult themes in it, though you will find a bit of suggested erotica sprinkled throughout.
There are several stories about animals who have a human form (mostly cats), a few superhero/theif stories, and some magician storylines. However, the book isn't entirely focused on the supernatural.
As for the artwork, it's pretty average. Not bad, but none of the illustrations really stand out.
DMP has published some great yaoi titles recently, but they sometimes include removable covers that can be a bit annoying. Luckily, this manga didn't have one.
Though the storylines and artwork aren't overly impressive, the book is very thick and each story can be read in a very short time.
In other words, it might make a good bathroom book.
Happy Reading!

3 out of 5 stars Could've been much better......   January 12, 2007

this book was good, but not worth the $17.oo I paid for it. There was some hard core yaoi in it, but if you think that its paked with it; your buying the wrong manga. I think there was only like three stories with actulal hardcore in it, and even then it was really very brief. the rest of the story was just shounen-ai, and i'll admit that most of the stories were pretty cute, but it still wasn't worth the money i paid for it. In fact there was even a couple stories that you can't even tell that its shounen-ai..... HOWEVER, if your looking for something with LOTS of hardcore action, cute storey lines, and good looking guys doing it I HIGHLY recomend: ... But I'm your Teacher That is a GOOD book!
